Civil War Times magazine: Civil War Times Magazine delivers the complete story of America's greatest internal conflict-with all its action, emotion, drama and modern-day significance. Leading historians and authors take readers on an exciting journey into the experiences of real people who lived the history, from the greatest commanders and politicians to the common soldiers and their families at home.

Morningside Bookshop is the premiere bookseller
of Civil War books.  In addition to the nearly one hundred
books Morningside currently has in print, we also sell and
keep in stock well over two thousand titles from other
publishers.   A full catalogue of these books is issued once a year, and supplemented monthly.

Morningside was also the publisher of the Gettysburg Magazine, a bi-annual, scholarly publication devoted to the Battle of Gettysburg.   For those interested in the Gettysburg Campaign of 1863, The Gettysburg Magazine answers the call.  Concentrating solely on the Gettysburg Campaign, the magazine gives an in depth study of the events that took place at America's most famous battle.  Filled with 128 pages of editorial and no advertising, The Gettysburg Magazine is a must for the Civil War enthusiast.

Morningside Bookshop was established in 1969 and is located in the South Park Historical District of Dayton, Ohio.

Civil War Historian magazine was founded to promote knowledge of Civil War-era life in America. Civil War Historian accomplishes its goal by producing a high-quality publication that supports those who reenact the lives of Americans who lived in this era. The nature of the publication is both informative and entertaining. Civil War Historian contains after-action reports of reenactments, reprints of period publications, and historical research articles, all of which are supported by exceptional color images and artistic page design. Civil War Historian’s guiding principle and belief are the need to protect, preserve, and share accurate information about this momentous period in our history.
Today, our Civil War battlefields are being destroyed at an alarming rate. Hallowed ground, where more than 600,000 Americans gave their lives, is being paved over for shopping malls and housing tracts. The same land upon which our nation was formed--where our ancestors fought and died--is being consumed by fast food restaurants, amusement parks, and other forms of urban sprawl.

Nearly 20 percent of America's Civil War battlefields have already been destroyed--denied forever to future generations. Of those that remain, only 15 percent are protected by the Federal government. There is only one national organization working to save all of these battlefields: The Civil War Preservation Trust.

About the National Archives- Of all documents and materials created in the course of business conducted by the United States Federal government, only 1%-3% are so important for legal or historical reasons that they are kept by us forever.

Those valuable records are preserved and are available to you, whether you want to see if they contain clues about your family’s history, need to prove a veteran’s military service, or are researching an historical topic that interests you.
Historic Photographs by Alexander Gardner
Alexander Gardner took 70 photographs of the battlefield starting just two days after the battle. This was the first time an American battlefield had ever been photographed before the dead had been buried. Gardner returned in early October when President Lincoln visited General George McClellan and the Army of the Potomac and took another series of images. Gardner, 41 years old at the time of the battle, was employed by Mathew Brady who owned of a photography gallery in Washington, D.C. during the Civil War.  Click on the image maker to see this interesting multimedia site that allows you to ZOOM in on the images and see tremendous detail.
The Civil War in Four Minutes.  This is at the new Lincoln Museum.  This video (somewhat fuzzy here) must have been filmed there.  To illustrate the scale, scope and tragedy of the Civil War, the museum’s Civil War in Four Minutes was created. It is a large animated map which plays out the progress of the war with continuously shifting battle lines and flare-ups that mark specific major battles. The entire war is presented in this way in roughly 4 and one half minutes. Each second represents 1 week of the war.

David Kincaid- Irish American Civil War Song CDs.  Kincaid, a civil war re-enactor,  has collected lyrics written by Irish soldiers in the Union army of the Civil War, and recreated them on CD.  The songs express love of country, pride of the Irish soldiers, the despair of war, and longing for loved ones back home.  Kincaid uses traditional period Irish instruments such as uilleann pipes (Irish bagpipes), bodhran (Irish goatskin drum), mandolin, and whistle.  These two CDs are available for sale on Amazon and online music venues.  The webmaster owns both these CDs and recommends them.

The Bohemian Brigade  This website is dedicated and to honor the Artist and Reporter Correspondents of the infamous Bohemian Brigade of the 19th century who were eye witnesses to the American Civil War.  Amongst the ranks of Special Correspondents were Alfred Waud, William Waud, Winslow Homer, Theodore Davis, Robert Weir, Andrew McCallum, A.W. Warren, Thomas Nast, Edwin Forbes and Charles Coffin.  Many and their newspapers called them the "Special Artists", "The Specials", "Army Correspondents", "The Press" and even "Spies" who braved the hazards of war to document first hand accounts of the War between the States.
